Differences
One way that the Civil War and French Revolution were different was the timing of their reform movements, and their types of reform movements. In the civil war their reform movements happened during and prior to the war. They were all inspired the the Second Great Awakening which happened in the early 1800's and was a religious movement. Some reform movements during and prior to the Civil War included:
- The Abolition Reform, whose goal was to abolish slavery
- The Woman's Rights Reform, whose goal was to get equal rights for women, which included things like suffrage, equal pay, and educational opportunities
- The Temperance Reform, whose goal was to have people start drinking little or no alcohol
- The Public Education Reform, whose goals were to have all children start attending school, extend the school year, and increase teacher training and pay
- The Prison / Care For Mentally Ill Reform, who's goal was to end inhumane treatment in prisons and mental asylums
- The People With Special Needs Reform, whose goal was to have education for those with disabilities
- The Education Reform, whose goals were to further "the development of literature, science, and the fine arts” 10.
- The Aristocracy Reform, whose goal was to turn the people of France into a society full of gentlemen and people who'd think on a high intellectual level
