Similarities
Between the French Revolution and American Civil War, there were several similarities, a major one being that they were both civil wars, a war between a nation. Here are some more similarities:
Women Doing Their Part
In both the French Revolution and the U.S. Civil War, women played a huge role. During the Civil War, hundreds of thousands of men were drafted into the army, leaving their homes and jobs. Women had to take over the part. Many women worked in the factories and ran businesses while their husbands were fighting. Some women even disguised themselves as men in order to fight alongside them. In the French Revolution, women played a role by marching on Versailles. This march included over 7,000 women, all responding to the harsh economic situations they faced. These women brought with them cannons and smaller fire arms, killing several guards. These women made a statement.
Human Rights
Another similarity between the two would be the fight for human rights. In the Civil War, the much of the North was against slavery, for they believed slavery was a cruel and inhumane thing. These people were called abolitionists. The abolitionists started reform movement against slavery, and eventually, the 14th amendment was passed, abolishing all slavery. In the French Revolution, they were also fighting for human rights. Many people who lived in France lived very poorly. They were poor and didn't get to have a meal every night. Some went starving for weeks, months. This was no way for a human being to live, and so the peasants fought against the government for human rights.
